性状：白色货淡黄色结晶。溶于乙醇、乙依打、丙酮等有机溶剂，几乎不溶于水。相对密度（d304）1.565。熔点 138℃。沸点 160℃（53.33Pa）。中等毒，半数致死量（大鼠，经口）375mg/kg。有致癌可能性
用途：生化研究。除草剂，植物生长剂，有机微量分析测定碳和氢的标准。2,4-D是具有代表性的合成植物生长激素（auxin）。在普通的植物生长激素定量法中显示有高的活性，但在采用植物生长激素标准定量法的燕麦伸长试验中，其效颇低。用铬变酸（chromotropic acid）处理时呈紫色，可作比色定量。此物质被大规模地利用为除草剂及防止果实早期脱落剂，撒入土中可为革兰氏阴性球菌和水生黄杆菌（Flavobacteriumaquatile）等细菌所分解。
